Who is behind AutismPro?

AutismPro was created by a team of award-winning software developers at Virtual Expert Clinics housed in the National Research Council of Canada’s IT Partnership Facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. AutismPro content was produced by an international consortium of autism therapists, including several from the Geneva Centre for Autism, Toronto, Canada. AutismPro’s principal expert contributor is Dr. Kathleen Ann Quill, a world renowned therapist and educator with more than 30 years experience in the field and an author of best selling texts in autism. Extensive quality assurance includes reviews by a professional advisory board composed of some of the leading experts in the field of autism. 

Is AutismPro intended to replace clinical supervisors?

No. In fact, AutismPro allows you to build and manage a team of therapists, teachers and others. However, if you have no access to expert clinical support, the tool still empowers you to carry out it’s recommendations so you are pro-actively helping the child while you wait for a local consultation. This way you don’t miss critical intervention time during your child’s optimum window for early intervention (before age 5 years).

Does AutismPro incorporate such therapeutic teaching methods as Applied Behavior Analysis and DIR/Floortime?

Somewhat. AutismPro integrates the fundamental components behind the continuum of  well-researched behavioral, developmental, and social methods for teaching a child with autism and organizes them into clear choices, recommendations and training within the Strategy Plan section of the program.

Does AutismPro incorporate such strategies as TEACCH, PECS, and Social Stories?

Somewhat.  AutismPro integrates the fundamental principles behind dozens of well-researched strategies for adapting the environment or activity for a child with autism, and organizes them into clear choices, recommendations and training within the Support Plan section of the program.

How does AutismPro help me choose a method of instruction?

AutismPro saves you time and effort by organizing the confusing and intimidating range of commonly accepted educational therapy methods in autism into a series of educated and supported choices. You choose the philosophical approach (behavioral, social and developmental) with which you feel most comfortable, and you’re free to make modifications to suit your child’s needs.
 
Does AutismPro introduce new methods for autism therapy?

No. The methods in AutismPro are a comprehensive integration of strategies from commonly accepted educational therapy options in autism, delivered on a new platform and organized according to a new cohesive conceptual framework. With AutismPro you get practical descriptions rather than a confusing list of strategy names, allowing you to more easily compare choices and make decisions. 

How does AutismPro help me learn a method?

AutismPro helps you learn a method by breaking it down into understandable components defined by questions, such as: How do I respond to my child’s challenging behavior?  It then provides multimedia resources to illustrate that method, including definitions, audio taped explanations, video examples, and case illustrations.

Can AutismPro help me include my child in a school or daycare setting?

AutismPro’s support plan section provides a variety of strategies for adapting your child to a daycare or school environment. Adaptations are organized to address your general and specific questions about how to include your child in social groups, or how to modify lessons and activities so that your child understands and can participate.

Can AutismPro help me solve behavioral problems with my child?

AutismPro’s support plan section provides a means of understanding and dealing with challenging and ritualistic behaviors. Recommendations are tailored to your current needs and the child’s current level.

Can AutismPro help me understand why my child is doing something?

AutismPro’s support plan section contains assessments that help you identify your child’s challenges in various developmental areas. It helps you understand general reasons why certain challenges occur regularly in autism education and in daily living with a child with autism.
